Construction Week 5

Construction Week 5

This week (Mar 14 – 19) French Concrete poured concrete for the foundation that supports the building walls and pilasters. You can see that most of their time goes into positioning the rebar and building the forms. This was also an opportunity for High Point Electric to install the Ufer ground to the rebar, just one of the ways in which the building is electrically grounded. You’ll notice that the actual pouring of concrete goes rather quickly. They just managed to beat the winter storm on Thursday evening, with blankets protecting the curing concrete from that night’s snowfall and colder temperatures. Friday was effectively a snow day, but they were back out there Saturday morning to remove the forms, reposition the blankets, and clear snow away in preparation for the next week’s concrete work.

Other things this week which you may notice: We continue to import dirt to the site to bring the parking lot up to grade. Earth Engineering Consultants (EEC) is often on site to ensure that the dirt work meets our engineering requirements. Evergreen Industrial has also started showing up in preparation for the arrival of the building steel. You’ll see the big forklift for all that steel drove in on Friday. At the end of the month, we should be ready to start erecting the building, and the folks at Evergreen are eager to get started.

Each second of the video corresponds to 30 minutes of real-time footage (30 frames per second, 1 minute between frames). YouTube will let you change the playback speed if you want to see things more slowly. If you’ve got the bandwidth, you can also boost the resolution all the way up to 4K! Just click on the gear icon.

Oh, and we did lose a bit of footage for Monday when the camera crashed. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen again!

We’ll release a video every week, so stay tuned for the next construction update.
